Hospitality group Accor is adding to its presence in Hungary with the signing of Swissôtel Budapest Lagoon. This flagship project is the result of a partnership between Accor and the Swiss real estate developer Forty Management. The property is set to open in 2028, becoming Accor’s first premium brand in the country.

Featuring 200 rooms and apartments overlooking a state-of-the-art man-made lagoon by the Danube River, the ESG-conscious project is set to become a beacon of innovative hospitality in the region. Lagoon City is a green urban reconversion of a former industrial area, and will be 100% self-sustainable in terms of energy needs thanks to environmentally friendly technologies, such as solar panels and heat pumps.

Founded in 1980, the premium Swissôtel brand is deeply rooted in the tradition of Swiss hospitality. Acknowledged by guests for its intuitive, authentic design, craftsmanship and purposeful approach to sustainability, Swissôtel infuses guests with the vitality of Alpine energy and inspiration to explore the world, discover life’s true rewards and embrace opportunities of well-being.

The brand-new Swissôtel property will serve as the hospitality hub for the Central District Lagoon City, a vibrant community built around a 10,000 sq m artificial lagoon with crystal-clear water and 3,500 sq m of sandy beaches.

“Swissôtel Budapest Lagoon is a flagship project for us in Central and Eastern Europe. By combining Swissôtel’s standards and a unique experience with the Central District Lagoon City’s vision of an urban retreat powered by technological innovation and a commitment to good living and sustainability, we are poised to offer the region an exciting preview of the future of hospitality”, declared Frank Reul, Vice President – Development Accor Premium, Midscale & Economy “Eastern Europe, Balkans, Italy & Greece.

Central District Lagoon City is developed by Forty Management, a Swiss real estate developer of innovative mixed-use projects and urban reconversion, 100% owned by the Romanian entity Forty Management S.A.

“At Forty Management, we have always prioritised uncompromising quality and innovation in all our real estate projects. Our partnership with Accor in developing the Swissôtel Budapest Lagoon expresses this commitment, combining our local expertise with Accor’s unmatched standards of service and hospitality. This collaboration not only elevates our project to the highest international standards, but also marks a significant step in our strategy to expand our mixed-use urban reconversion project Lagoon City abroad, ensuring that our developments continue to set benchmarks in the industry”, added Lucian Azoitei, Founder & CEO at Forty Management.

The project will be located on the Eastern bank of a secondary Danube branch, in the charming Pesterzsébet district of Budapest. To support the development of the project, the Budapest municipality will enhance the adjacent promenade area and will introduce boat taxi rides for hotel guests, offering convenient access to the city centre, with all its astonishing cultural attractions, magnificent historical sights and business destinations.

The Swissôtel Budapest Lagoon boasts exclusive access to the private lagoon with its beach area, which during winter will be transformed into an ice-skating rink. The hotel will feature 200 rooms and apartments, two restaurants, a lobby bar, spa, wellness and fitness facilities and a conference venue, as well as a 200-space parking lot.

Central District Lagoon City uses technology developed and patented worldwide by the American biochemical and water services company Crystal Lagoon®. The innovation enables the construction and maintenance of large-scale, affordable, sustainable lagoons that provide an idyllic, tropical resort lifestyle anywhere in the world.

Currently, more than 1,000 such lagoons are under development worldwide. Forty Management is one of the few companies in the world authorised to use Crystal Lagoon® technology in a private lagoon concept (Lagoon City).

The hotel operator selection process was coordinated with the support of Mircea Ioan Drăghici, managing partner of Est Hospitality Consulting, with over 23 years of experience in hospitality, hotel operations expertise, consulting and association involvement.

Guests staying at the Swissôtel Budapest Lagoon will enjoy a wide variety of rewards, services and experiences under ALL - Accor Live Limitless, the prestigious loyalty program that enhances the experience during and beyond each hotel stay.
