Promoted by GRI Club Real Estate, GRI New York Week toured New York’s most innovative developments.

The second edition of the GRI New York Week, held in tune with Latin America GRI 2019, took place on March 25, 26, and 27 and toured innovative developments in the city, such as the Hudson Yards, One Vanderbilt, and 53W53. As is already typical of the GRI Club format, among the initiative’s objectives was driving the relationships among the participants, all of whom players working on the Latin American real estate market.
“In addition to the possibility of getting to know new developments and trends that will dictate the future of the regional real estate industry, a great unique feature of the week GRI promoted is precisely the environment conducive to networking, which encourages new friendships, exchanges of experiences, and potential business,” says Leonardo Di Mauro, head of GRI Club Real Estate for Latin America.
On the first day, the group, made up of about 25 people, visited The Wing – a network of community and workspaces for women in Brooklyn. The project was designed to promote professional, social, civic, and economic advancement among women, fostering new ideas and business opportunities.
The Studio, a flexible office building venture located in the iconic Rockefeller Center, was also on the program on March 25th, which ended with a visit to WeGrow – a We group school better known as Webring, in Chelsea.
The next trip was to the headquarters of the Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) architecture firm, where details of a few of its projects were presented, such as the Hudson Yards – the biggest private real estate development in US history, which was also part of the benchmarking week.
The group then went on a visit to the construction site of One Vanderbilt, the largest office building in central Manhattan, and to the 53W53 residential project, which is being built on the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and is signed by Jean Nouvel, one of the most prestigious architects in the world.
The second day ended with a stop at IWG group’s Spaces 230 Park. At the site, Latin American entrepreneurs were able to talk to Wayne Berger, CEO of IWG for Canada and Latin America, who was the keynote speaker of the 4th edition of Latin America GRI.
GRI New York Week was wrapped up at the Cornell Tech Campus, created in a partnership between Cornell University and Technion International – Israel Institute of Technology. Located on Roosevelt Island, the learning space is dedicated to education and research in the digital age and covers business, technology and legislation.
Another highlight of GRI Club’s Latin American week in the United States was the GRI Great Minds Program New York 2019, part of a partnership with the Syracuse University School of Architecture and that brought to participants a full day of immersion in high-level content.
During a whole day (March 29), those participating were able to deepen knowledge about advanced funding models, alternative real estate formats, proptechs, and other key business development themes.
Among the trainers were Johnny Din, chief executive of Cycamore Living and professor of Real Estate Business at Columbia University; Francisco Angragnes, CEO of Metro Buildings and a professor specializing in the International Real Estate Market at New York University; Kurt Franz, founder of Edifice, a technology platform for real estate development; Andy Golubitsky, Vice President of Development, Macklowe Properties; Abby Hamlin, founder of Hamlin Ventures and a professor of Real Estate Development at Columbia University; and David Belt, co-founder of the New Lab and collaborator at institutions such as Columbia University and MoMA.
Last year, the entourage participating in the GRI Week also got behind the scenes and operations of innovative real estate developments in various segments - such as multifamily, co-living, student housing, senior living and co-working – as well as other iconic and well-established ones – such as the Rockefeller Center.
Latin American real estate market leaders will discuss new business and challenging issues for concrete advancements in this market throughout the year in the region.
Among the club’s upcoming events the limelight is on Mexico GRI 2019, which is scheduled for June 18 and 19 in the capital city of Mexico, now coming to its 5th edition as a consolidated gathering point for the top executives of this industry.
